Once unlocked, you can add minutes to your Tracfone.
Unlocking your cellphone will allow you to change mobile providers or use it overseas. By unlocking your phone, you may switch to any network outside of Tracfone with a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card. Tracfone provides prepaid and pay-as-you go mobile plans, which are more affordable than contract wireless plans. You only pay for the minutes you use, and you do not have a one- or two-year contract; however, you may want to use another prepaid plan. Before you unlock your phone with Tracfone, you need to obtain an International Mobile Equipment Identification (IMEI) number. This number helps the representative generate an unlock code for your phone.
Instructions
1. Enter *#06# into your phone's keypad. Press the "SEND" button. Write down your phone's IMEI number.
2. Call Tracfone on your cellphone or landline phone. Follow the prompts to direct yourself to a customer service representative. Verify your account information, and ask to unlock your phone to the network.
3. Give your phone's model number and IMEI number. Write down the unlock code you will receive.
4. Turn off your cellphone. Remove the protective cover and battery. Locate the SIM card, which looks similar to a computer microchip.
5. Remove the SIM card with your fingernail. Replace it with a SIM card from Tracfone. Replace the battery and protective cover.
6. Turn on your cellphone. Enter the unlock code when prompted. Your phone will restart and display the Tracfone network.
