Flash A Cell Phone With A Cable

Flash your cell phone with a USB cable to upgrade it or unlock it.

Cell phone flashing is the process of rewriting a cell phone's software. You may wish to do this to update your software or to make some improvements to it. When you are flashing your cell phone, make sure that the firmware installed on your phone is compatible with your cell phone service provider. You will also need a USB cable, which probably came with your mobile phone when you purchased it.

Instructions

1. Download flash software to your computer (see Resource links). You can purchase these online for about $25 as of 2010. These programs carry the necessary files to overwrite your cell phone's software.

2. Connect your mobile phone to your computer using the USB cable that came with it. If you are using a laptop, make sure that the power cord is plugged in so that the battery does not die while you are flashing the phone.

3. Unzip the downloaded software to your computer and double-click on the executable file to initiate the flashing process. This will open up the flashing program, and a series of instructions will appear on the screen. The instructions will be different for every make and model of phone. Follow them exactly as they appear on the screen. Be sure not to disconnect your phone while it is being flashed as this may damage it. After flashing is complete, disconnect your phone from the USB cable.
