Why Can'T I Upload Videos On Youtube

YouTube allows you to share videos you've shot with users around the world. To make your videos available for viewing on YouTube's website, you must upload them to your account. In certain instances, it might not be possible for you to upload your videos to YouTube's server successfully.

How Uploading Works

You can upload your video to YouTube's servers in one of two ways. You may use the default Flash Uploader or the simpler Basic Uploader. Ideally, both methods yield the same result -- your video ends up on YouTube -- although using the Flash Uploader allows you to see the video's progress in terms of megabytes transferred, percentage uploaded and estimated time remaining. If you use the Flash Uploader, you can also enter a title, description and tags for your video while you wait for the upload to complete.

Flash Problems

The first problem which might prevent you from uploading videos is if there's an issue with your browser's version of Flash. As the Flash Uploader is YouTube's default uploading option, failure to upload using this means may suggest you're not able to upload videos at all. Try the Basic Uploader if the Flash Uploader fails. Access the Basic Uploader by clicking "Upload" at the top of the screen, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Basic Uploader."

Video Size

YouTube limits the size of videos users upload to the site, both in terms of their length as well as file size. In terms of time, for example, the maximum video length you can upload is 15 minutes, as of April 2011. Video files cannot exceed 2 GB. If your video is more than 15 minutes in length or 2 GB in file size, these are the reasons you can't upload it to YouTube.

Internet Connection

Uploading your video file to YouTube requires an unbroken Internet connection. If your connection cuts out once or twice during an upload, it likely won't affect the final outcome, but if you're using a connection that frequently comes and goes -- if, for example, you're traveling in a developing country or using public Internet with many users -- your upload may fail. Wait until you can access a consistent Internet connection to upload if your upload fails using a poor connection.
