Released in 2009, the Nokia N97 is a smart phone that is packed with an array of features. The Nokia N97 directly competes with other smart phones in its class such as Apple's iPhone 3GS. The Nokia N97 is equipped with both a QWERTY keyboard and a touch screen and has memory that can be expanded.
Hardware Features
The Nokia N97 has a 3.5-inch touch screen display that has a resolution of 640 by 360 pixels. The N97's screen has brightness control, an orientation sensor, proximity sensor and an ambient light detector. The N97 is powered by a Li-ion battery that features a maximum talk time of 9.5 hours and a maximum standby time of 17.9 days. The N97 is equipped with 32GB of internal memory with an microSD slot capable of expanding the phone's memory by 16GB.
Communication Features
Like most smart phones, the Nokia N97 has the ability to view and send emails, send text messages and multimedia messages, set up speed dials and voice dial contacts and has Bluetooth. A user can also set up specific ring tones for different contacts and use a picture to identify a contact. The N97 can view Adobe PDF files, Microsoft Office files and Web pages with a full browser. Unlike non-Nokia mobile devices, the N97 has access to Nokia Download!, a service dedicated for Nokia users to download applications and widgets.
Photo and Video Features
The N97 is equipped with photo and video capabilities. The smart phone's camera is 5.0 mega-pixels with Carl Zeiss optics and a 4x digital zoom. The N97 has automatic location tagging of images and videos that are captured using the device. Viewing photos is easy with the touch screen and cover flow feature. Video is captured in MPEG-4 up to VGA at 30fps. Videos are saved in .mp4 format and can be sent via MMS or uploaded online. Flash video and Internet streaming are also supported on the smart phone.
Entertainment Features
Games are widely available for the Nokia N97 and the phone features "Guitar Rock Tour" pre-downloaded. The touch screen is used in game play as well as the side keys. The N97 has MP3-playing capabilities, integrated stereo speakers, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and the ability to listen to music wirelessly via Bluetooth. If a user ever becomes bored with their downloaded MP3s, a stereo FM radio is also available on the N97. GPS and navigation capabilities are also available.
