The P1i is a smartphone released by Sony Ericsson in 2007. The N79 and E71 are Nokia models comparable to the P1i in terms of design and features. All three phones run on the open-source Symbian operating system and feature digital cameras and Bluetooth capabilities. They differ primarily in terms of battery life, camera resolution and onboard storage space.
Size and Battery
The Sony Ericsson P1i measures 4.17 inches tall, 2.16 inches wide and 0.66 inches thick at its thickest point. It weighs 4.37 ounces before optional upgrades and accessories. The Nokia N79 measures 4.33 inches tall, 1.93 inches wide and 0.59 inches thick. It weighs 3.42 ounces. The E71 measures 4.49 inches tall, 2.24 inches wide and 0.39 inches thick. It weighs 4.48 ounces. Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries provide onboard power to all three phones. The P1i gets up 10 hours of talk time per charge, while the N79 gets 3.5 hours and the E71 gets 10.5 hours.
Displays and Cameras
All three phones have color screens with identical display resolutions of 240 by 320 pixels. Only the P1i's screen has touch capabilities. Screens on the N79 and E71 display up to 16.7 million colors, while the P1i's screen displays up to 262,144 colors. All three phones have integrated digital cameras. The P1i's camera has a 3.2-megapixel sensor, onboard flash, digital zoom, autofocus and video-recording functionality. The N79 features a 5-megapixel camera with dual LED flash, digital zoom, image stabilization, autofocus and video-recording capabilities. The E71 has a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus, digital zoom and video capture support.
Connectivity
All three smartphones run on GSM and UMTS mobile technology. The P1i also features Bluetooth 2.0 functionality, an FM radio transmitter, mobile email and Wi-Fi capabilities. The N79 and E71 both have Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR support, A-GPS capabilities, mobile email and Wi-Fi functionality. All three phones also have the ability to connect to computers and other devices via miniature USB 2.0 ports.
Processors and Storage
Sony Ericsson equips the P1i with a 208-MHz, single-core ARM 9 processor. The N79 and E71 feature identical 369-MHz, single-core ARM 11 processors. The P1i has 160MB of built-in storage space, compared to 50MB for the N79, and 110MB for the E71. The P1i also has an integrated Memory Stick Micro memory card slot, while the N79 and E71 both have microSD memory card slots.
