The USB cable connects your phone to the unlocking software.
If you purchased your Nokia phone online, through the mail or as a special offer, it may have a lock on it. This lock prevents you from using the phone on another network. If you want to switch wireless providers, you can use unlocking software. With your Nokia phone connected to your computer, you can uncover the code. First, you need to locate your phone's International Mobile Equipment Identification (IMEI) number.
Instructions
1. Enter *#06# in your phone's keypad. Press the "OK" button. Write down the 15-digit IMEI number.
2. Download unlocking software. Examples include The Unlocker, GSM Liberty and Unlock to Talk (see Resources). Save the file to your desktop.
3. Double click the file and follow the installation instructions. Save the software to your computer's hard drive. Restart your computer for the software to take effect.
4. Connect your phone to your computer with the data cable. Make sure that both your cell phone and computer are on. Wait for the software to detect your cell phone. Otherwise, click the software's icon to launch it.
5. Enter your Nokia's IMEI code. Wait for the software to come up with an unlock code for your phone. Enter that code into your phone. Pay attention to any special instructions given by the software.
6. Click the "OK" button. Your Nokia phone will activate to the wireless network. Disconnect your phone from your computer.
