Google Voice
is a free service that gives you a new phone number in the area code of your choice. Through your Google Voice account, you can set up your Google Voice number to automatically forward to your other phones. Google Voice can ring up to six additional phone numbers, land lines or cell phones, simultaneously. Before you can use Google Voice, however, you will need to complete a setup process to activate your new Google Voice account.
Instructions
1. Go to the Google Voice homepage (see Resources).
2. Enter your email address and password and click the "Sign In" button. Alternatively, if you do not have a Google account, click the "Create an account" button and enter the requested information to open a free Google account.
3. Click the "I want a new number" button to receive your new Google Voice phone number.
4. Enter your area code and click the "Search Numbers" button.
5. Select your new Google Voice phone number from the list of available numbers. Click the "Continue" button.
6. Enter and confirm the four-digit PIN code you want to use to access your Google Voice account. Click the box agreeing to Google Voice's terms of service and click the "Continue" button.
7. Enter the forwarding phone number that you want to ring when someone calls your Google Voice number. Click the "Continue" button.
8. Click the "Call me now" button. Google Voice will initiate a call to the forwarding number you selected. Answer the phone and enter the security code displayed in Google Voice to confirm the ownership of the forwarded phone number. Click the "Done" button. You have now completed the setup process for your new Google Voice account.
