Activate a Verizon Cell Phone


Verizon Wireless offers several different cell phone brands, models and plan services. Most of the cell phones require the buyer to sign a two-year contract. Prices for the cell phones range from $60 to more than $200. To begin using a Verizon Wireless cell phone, follow these activation steps.


Instructions


1. Activate your phone in the store. Whether you are purchasing a brand new cell phone for the first time or upgrading from a current to a newer phone, you have to option of activating your Verizon Wireless cell phone at the store or hub where you purchased the equipment. Ask the clerk to activate the phone for you. It takes merely seconds to activate the cell phone.


2. Active your cell phone online. Set up a new online account at Verizon Wireless. If you are activating an upgrading phone, make sure that your former cell phone is turned off during this process.


Click "Activate New Phone" when you reach the online activation screen. Next, using the intuitive online screen input your mobile phone number and billing zip code. Click "Next."


Input the order number and location code off your store receipt and select a service plan. Provide the last four digits of your social security number. Review the data on the screen for accuracy. As a note, in the event that you lose your store receipt, call Verizon Wireless at 800-922-0204 so that you can finish the activation process.


3. Activate your cell phone via voice. Dial the Verizon Wireless customer service at 800-922-0204. Notify the representative as to whether you want to activate an upgrading phone to your current service plan or if you are a brand new customer. Follow the data requests prompts the representative gives you to activate the new phone. Items you will need to complete the activation with the service representative include your cell phone number, order number and location code off the store receipt and the last four digits of your social security number. Inform the service representative of any changes you would like to make to your existing service plan as well.


4. Test your mobile phone. Call a friend or your home land line telephone number to test that the service is working properly. If you purchased a plan that allows you to send and receive email text messages or surf the web, test those applications to make sure they are working properly.
