Install Jad Via Desktop Manager On A Blackberry

Normally, Java application files (JAD and JAR files) are installed to the BlackBerry using Over-The-Air (OTA) technology. This simply means that you navigate to the JAD download site from the browser on your Internet-connected BlackBerry, download the file and follow the prompts to install it to your device. However, JAD files (with their corresponding JAR files) may also be installed through the newer versions (versions 4.3 and above) of the BlackBerry Desktop Software installed on the computer you use to synchronize the device.

Instructions

1. Navigate to the blackberry.com website. Download one of the newer versions of the free BlackBerry Desktop Software. Install the software to your computer.

2. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Software on your computer. Plug the BlackBerry into a free USB port on the computer using the USB connector cable that was shipped with the device. The BlackBerry registers in the lower right corner of the BlackBerry Desktop Software main menu screen.

3. Click the "Media Manager" icon on the main menu screen. The Media Manager opens.

4. Click the "BlackBerry Internal Memory" (not the media card) option in the lower-left corner of the Media Manager screen.

5. Right-click the "BlackBerry Internal Memory" option and select "Create Folder." Type a new name for the folder, such as "JADApp." A new folder is created.

6. Drag the JAD zip file, still in "Zip" format (do not unzip) and drop the file into the lower-right window in the Media Manager screen. The zip file should contain both a JAD and JAR file. A confirmation window opens. Click "OK."

7. Unplug the BlackBerry from the computer.

8. Press the "Menu" button on the BlackBerry and then select the "Media" icon. Press the trackball or track pad. The Media page opens.

9. Press the "Menu" button while on the Media page.

10. Scroll to and select "Explore." Press the trackball or track pad. A file explorer opens showing several folders. One folder is named "Device Memory."

11. Scroll to and select the "Device Memory" folder. Press the trackball or track pad to open the directory.

12. Scroll to and select the new folder you created (Suggested name: JADApp). Press the trackball or track pad. You will see the files inside the zip file.

13. Scroll to and select the JAR (not the JAD) file. Press the trackball or track pad. A description of the program about to be installed is displayed.

14. Scroll to and select the "Install" option. Press the trackball or track pad. Scroll to and select "Yes" to confirm that the application is from a trusted source. Press the trackball or track pad once again.

15. Press "OK" and press the trackball or track pad when the notification appears that the program has been installed.
