Reinstall My Sound Driver After I Deleted It

When you inadvertently delete a sound driver, don't panic. You can reinstall the driver. Sound drivers can often be mistaken for an unnecessary driver and uninstalled. The sound card driver is used by the computer to project the sounds made in video, conversations or recorded audio. Fortunately, a sound driver is software and this software is either still on your computer, on a CD in your home or can be downloaded from the Internet.

Instructions

Computer Restore Point

1. Navigate to the "Start" menu and select "Programs." Choose "Accessories" and select "System Tools."

2. Select "System Restore" and choose a restore point from the list of available restore points and dates. Be sure to choose a point before you deleted the sound drivers. Wait for the wizard to turn off the computer, restart it and look for the restore point. This can take approximately 30 minutes to an hour.

3. Play a music or video file to see if the sound driver was restored.

Device Driver Wizard

4. Go to "Start" and select "Control Panel." Choose "System and Maintenance" and "Device Manager."

5. Look for the sound driver and look to see if there is a yellow triangle precaution icon next to the sound driver. Select the deleted sound driver.

6. Right-click on this driver and select "Update Driver" from the list of options that appears. Wait for the wizard to connect to the Internet and locate a good version of the driver. Follow any instructions it gives you to do this and allow the program to finish. This process may take 20 to 30 minutes to complete.

New Driver
