Use a USB cable to securely connect your phone to your laptop.
Wi-Fi is a commonly used form of Internet connection -- it allows you to connect a laptop or computer to the Internet via a wireless router. Unfortunately, once out of the range of a router, you can no longer use it for Internet access. Connecting to the Internet via your mobile phone is a clever way around this -- it allows you to use the mobile phone as a modem and connect on the go.
