Use A N95 Mask

N95 masks are used industrially in areas where soot, dust and other potentially hazardous particles are in the atmosphere. Because N95 masks filter out small particles, they are sometimes also used medically to prevent the spread of some contagious diseases, such as the flu. These masks must be used correctly to offer protection, however. Incorrect use renders the mask ineffective and exposes the wearer to pollutants and contagions in the immediate area. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Place the mask over your head. One strap should go above your ears and the other strap below.

2. Adjust the straps on each side of the mask until it fits snugly against your face. Using both hands, pinch the nosepiece, at the bridge of the nose, to provide a good seal.

3. Place both of your hands over the front of the N95 respirator and inhale deeply. You'll be able to tell if air comes in from the sides, top or bottom this way. If it does, re-adjust the straps and nosepiece until no air leaks in from outside the mask.

4. Replace the N95 mask with a new one when it gets wet or becomes so soiled that breathing becomes difficult.

5. If using it in a medical environment, remove the N95 mask carefully to avoid contaminating your hands. Hold on to the bottom of the mask, avoiding touching the front of the mask, and then grasp the top strap. Pull the mask over your head.
