Fix A Broken Car Power Window

Fix a Broken car Power Window Step by Step

Electric windows in a car use a motor operated by switches that make an internal regulator rise or lower the window glass. The window can get stuck due to many issues, such us problems with the fuses, the regulator or the motor itself.

Instructions

1. Turn the terminal bolts counterclockwise to disconnect the battery by using a socket wrench. It is very important you disconnect the battery before you start working on the electrical parts of the car.

2. Check the fuse panel and replace fuses with blown filaments. The electric window system is linked to the fuse panel on the left side of the dashboard. Also, there might be another fuse box that operates

window subsystems, although this panel is intended to operate primary functions of the engine. Look for this secondary panel underneath the hood (on the driver's side fender) and replace blown fuses.

3. Use a screwdriver to pry the window switch panel from the car door and pull the adapter plugs apart to disconnect the switches from the wiring. Just use your hands to remove the adapter plugs. Check the switch assembly for excessive moisture or burn smell and replace it.

4. Remove all the interior door handle screws by turning them counterclockwise with a screwdriver to remove the door panel. Use a socket wrench to take the bolts off the armrest. Loosen the pop rivets that hold the door panel to the door metal by pulling the panel with your hands. Set aside the door panel once removed from the door.

5. Inspect the window regulator joints and fully replace any damaged joints by turning the mount bolts to the left and maneuvering the regulator from the door. Check the window glass for play in its side-to-side motion by lightly moving the window glass back and forth in the regulator; if any play is found, then the glass could be dis aligned and therefore stuck. Align the glass and then tighten the fittings to

secure the glass to the regulator. Tighten them snugly, but not excessively in order to prevent the glass from breaking.

6. Unplug the window motor from the wiring harness to replace it by turning the mount bolts to the left with a socket wrench. Pull the motor out and place the new one into the regulator mechanism, then use the wrench to fasten mount bolts. Place wiring harness back in its place and press the adapter plugs with your hands to reconnect it.

7. Take the door panel and put it back in place. Press the pop rivets in the door metal by tapping with your fingers until they are re-engaged. Fit all the bolts and screws snugly into the armrest and interior door handle and turn them clockwise.

8. Press the adapter plug together to reconnect the window switches to the wiring. Place the switch assembly in its place into the door panel and press it until seated. Open the hood and use the socket wrench to turn the positive terminal bolt of the battery in the clockwise direction to reconnect it.
