Toshiba Satellite 2800 Specs

The 2800 series featured a full 85-key keyboard.


The Satellite 2800 series is a line of laptop computers manufactured by Toshiba. The line was first introduced in 2001, and it was updated throughout the first half of the 2000s. A number of models were sold, including the 2800-S201 in America and the 2800-500 overseas. Specifications given here are those of the original 2800-S201 model sold in America. The line has since been discontinued.


Identification


The Satellite 2800 series was marketed as a mid-range laptop for business use. All models were housed in matte black metal casing. When closed, the 2800-S201 measured 12.9 inches in length, 10.7 inches deep and 1.5 inches tall. It weighed 7.30 pounds. The 2800-S201 was powered by a rechargeable 10.8 volt, 4,800 mAh Lithium ion battery that, when new, provided an average of two hours of battery power at full charge. It also came with a 60-watt AC adapter with an in-line power pack that measured 5.51 inches in length, 2.95 inches wide and 0.98 inches tall. All models came with a one-year warranty that covered parts, labor and the laptop's battery.


CPU, Memory and Storage


When it was first released, the 2800-S201 came standard with a Mobile Intel Celeron processor clocked at 650MHz. It featured 128KB of Level 2 cache and a 100MHz Front Side Bus. Subsequent models were available with Intel Pentium III processors as well. The 2800-S201 came standard with 64MB of RAM, expandable up to 320MB. The laptop used PC100 SDRAM. The laptop came standard with a 6GB internal enhanced IDE hard drive. It also featured a built-in 3.5-inch floppy disk drive. Subsequent models in the 2800 series featured larger hard drives and rewritable CD drives.


Multimedia


Models in the 2800 series came standard with a 13-inch TFT active matrix display with a maximum resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels. The display supported up to 16 million colors. Audio was provided by a Yamaha YMF754B-R PCI sound card. The sound card featured 16-bit audio and 3D sound support. Audio was played back through two built-in speakers and a small internal sub-woofer. Video was powered by an S3 Savage IX Graphics controller with 8MB of internal video memory.


Connectivity and Expansion


The 2800 series featured integrated V.90/K56flex dial-up modems as well as 10/100 broadband Ethernet ports for internet access. Other ports included SVGA video, two PCI slots, a TV output, two USB 1.0 ports, an ECP parallel port, headphone and microphone jacks, an RJ-11 port, and an RJ-45 port.


Operating System and Software


The 2800-S201 was shipped installed with the Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (ME) operating system. Standard software included Microsoft Internet Explorer, Toshiba Custom Utilities, MediaMatics DVDExpress, and Toshiba VirtualTech. Customers purchasing the 2800-S201 were also allowed to choose two additional software titles from a list that included Lotus SmartSuite, as well as other productivity and entertainment titles.
