Finnish multinational telecommunications manufacturer Nokia Corp. released the N95 and N81 in 2007 as part of the company's N-series of "smartphones" -- portable devices equipped with more advanced features than a regular cellphone. The Nokia N95 and N81 are quad-band phones, meaning they use four frequency bands for communication: the 850, 900, 1,800 and 1,900 megahertz frequency bands under the Global System for Mobile Communications or GMS standard. While the phones are similar, the N81 and N95 have several distinct differences.
System Specs
The N95 and N81 both run on the Symbian OS 9.2 operating system. The ARM 11 processor on the N95 has a processing speed of 332 megahertz, while that of the N81 is faster at 369 MHz. The N95 has 160 megabytes of storage and 64 MB of random access memory, while the N81 has 12 MB of storage and 96 MB of RAM. Both are equipped with a microSD slot for adding up to 8 gigabytes of additional memory. The N95 comes with a 128 MB card and the N81 comes with a larger 2 GB card.
Camera and Video
The Nokia N95 has a 5-megapixel camera supporting a 2,592-by-1,944-pixel resolution. It also has a video recording feature that performs at 30 frames per second. The camera of the N81 is a 2-megapixel one with a 1,600-by-1,200-pixel resolution, and its video performs at 15 fps.
Audio and Connectivity
Both phones have MP3 players. However, that of the N81 only accommodates MP3 and AAC digital audio formats. The N95 can play other formats such as WMA and WAV. Both phones have Bluetooth technology and a Wi-Fi wireless technology that adheres to the International Electrical and Electronics Engineers association's 802.11b/g set of standards, with an infrared port added on the N95.
Physical Characteristics and Display
The Nokia N95 and N81 are both designed as slider phones. The N95 is available in black, pink, plum, red and silver; the N81 is limited to blue and gray. The N95 measures 3.9 inches in height, 2.09 inches in width and is 0.83 inches deep, weighing 4.23 ounces. The N81 is 4.05 inches long, 1.97 inches wide, 0.7 inches deep and weighs 4.93 ounces. The TFT screen display supports a 240-by-320-pixel resolution and a 16-million color display, although the N95's screen at 2.6 inches is slightly larger than the N81's 2.4 inches.

The Nokia N95 is equipped with a 950-milliampere-hour lithium-ion battery, while the N81 has a 1,050-mAh battery. Talk time on the N95 is up to six hours and standby time is about 220 hours. On the N81, the talk time peak is four hours and standby time is 410 hours.
