TracFone does not charge monthly fees or require its users to have a contract.
TracFone is a prepaid wireless mobile phone service. With traditional cell phone plans, users must pay a contractual monthly fee and other prearranged charges. With TracFone, customers purchase a cell phone through the company and add prepaid talk time to their accounts as they go along. There are no contracts and no obligation to continue using the wireless service past the pre-purchased block of time and minutes. Adding time to a TracFone is a fairly straightforward matter.
Instructions
1. Buy airtime directly on the TracFone website. Go to the TracFone homepage (see Resources), and click on the button on the right-hand side that says "Activate Phone, Add or Buy Airtime." In the next screen, place your cursor over "Add Airtime" in the blue menu across the top, and select "Buy Airtime Online" from the drop-down menu. Scroll down the list of options and follow the on-screen instructions to buy the desired amount of airtime and add it to your phone.
2. Add airtime directly from your phone. Enroll in the TracFone "Buy-now: Airtime on Demand" program by clicking on the button on the TracFone homepage that says "Activate Phone, Add or Buy Airtime." In the next screen, place your cursor over "Add Airtime" in the blue menu across the top, and select "Buy Airtime From Your TracFone" from the drop-down menu. Once you are registered, you can purchase airtime by pressing the center navigation key on your phone and selecting the "Buy Airtime" option, following the simple on-screen instructions.
3. Enroll in a monthly Value Plan. The TracFone Value Plans automatically purchase a pre-determined amount of airtime for you each month using the payment option you designate on your account. From the TracFone home page, click on "Activate Phone, Add or Buy Airtime." On that page, click on the right-hand button that says "Automatic Monthly Plans." Select the individual or family plan that best suits your needs and click on the blue "Enroll" button to start the transaction, following the on-screen instructions to complete your purchase.
