Released in December 2008, the Nokia E63 is a budget business-oriented smart phone from Finnish multinational telecommunications manufacturer Nokia Corp. The only difference between the European version, sometimes called the E63-1, and the American version, or the E63-2, is the frequencies they use under the Wideband Code Division Multiple Access standard. The European E63 operates under the 900 and 2,100MHz frequencies, while the American E63 adheres to the 850 and 1,900MHz operating frequencies. Apart from such a distinction, the E63-1 and E63-2 are the same phone.
Operating System and Processor
As part of the E Series of phones from Nokia, the E63 uses the S60 (formerly known as Series 60 User Interface) software program. It runs on the Symbian OS v9.2, which is Nokia's operating system brand. The processor is ARM11 Freescale microchip, named so because it has the ARM instruction set architecture from British semiconductor manufacturer ARM Holdings. It has a processing speed of 369MHz.
Memory and Multimedia
Each Nokia E63 can contain up to 110MB of internal dynamic memory. Also included is a removable Flash memory slot for a microSD, or small Secure Digital, card. The maximum storage capacity must be 8GB. Also included are a 2-megapixel camera with up to 1,600 by 1,200 pixels in resolution and LED flash; 15-frames-per-second video camera; music player with accommodation for the MP3, Windows Media Audio and Advanced Audio Coding digital formats; and FM radio with an 87.5-to-108-MHz frequency range.
Data and Connectivity
The Nokia E63's wireless connectivity comes from its Bluetooth 2.0 technology and a wireless local area network adapter that adheres to the International Electrical and Electronics Engineers association's 802.11 b/g standards. Using the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE) and WCDMA standards, the E63 has data transfer ranges of 60 to 100, 178 to 296 and 384 kilobits per second, respectively. Also included is a 3.5-millimeter audio/video connector.
Size, Display and Battery
Weighing 4.44 oz., the Nokia E63 has a monoblock form factor with a QWERTY keyboard. Its dimensions consist of a 2.32-inch width, 4.45-inch length and 0.51-inch depth. The display screen measures 2.36 inches diagonally, with a Quarter Video Graphics Array resolution standard of 320 by 240 pixels and a 16-million maximum color display.
