Medical school in Germany differs substantially from medical studies in the United States. Rather than engage in both undergraduate (pre-medical) studies and graduate studies, German students begin their medical education from the beginning of their college studies. The process of obtaining a medical education can take up to about eight years to complete in the German medical system.
University of Wurzburg
Medical studies at the University of Wurzburg focus on medical research, but also clinical practice and teaching. Students have numerous opportunities to research in various fields of study. Some of these include transfusion medicine and hemotherapy, radiology, radiotherapy, women's health, adolescent and child psychology, psychotherapy and psychosomatics, neurosurgery, orthopedics, molecular medicine and tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The university is home to 14 different medical research centers such as the Institute of Human Genetics and the Theodor-Boveri Institute for Biosciences.

Hannover Medical School
The medical school at the University of Hannover has a well-established reputation for research in the medical field. The school is home to two different medical clinics: the Clinic for Dermatology, Allergology and Venerology and the Clinic for Orthopaedic Surgery. Research at the institution has several different areas of focus. Some of these include immunology and transplantational medicine, cancer therapy in both children and adult, neonatology, immune system disease and infection, pneumology and cardiovascular medicine and reconstructive surgery. Students have a number of options in their medical studies. In addition to a traditional medical degree, students can pursue a Master of Science in Biomedicine; they can also pursue additional studies in the fields of biochemistry and public health.

The medical faculty at the University of Heidelberg offers an extensive medical training program.
