Turn A Cell Phone Into A Speakerphone

Cell phones typically come with speakerphone capabilities.

A speakerphone enables a user to have a conversation without holding a cell phone. This improves safety for those who use a cell phone while driving by decreasing distraction. Some states, in fact, have outlawed the use of a cell phone while driving without a hands-free device. A speakerphone also allows for increased productivity by enabling you to hold conversations while performing other tasks. Most cell phones as of 2010 have speakerphone capabilities, but users in some cases must turn on the speakerphone.

Instructions

1. Locate the button on the face or side of the cell phone that is dedicated to the speakerphone function. The button often is marked with a speaker icon or may be labeled. On some phones the speakerphone button may be combined with another function. Push the speakerphone button during a call to activate the feature; it can be pushed again to return to normal speaker mode.

2. Use the cell phone manual to look in the index for "speakerphone." If you do not have the manual, visit the manufacturer's support website; manuals often are available for download.

3. Access the phone's "Options," "Settings" or "Menu." Some phones require navigating various screens to locate the speakerphone settings.

4. Locate an appropriate adapter if the phone does not have a built-in speakerphone function. Some phone manufacturers offer specific hardware for adding a speakerphone function.
