About The Nokia 5200

Released in 2006, the Nokia 5200 digital cellphone is a discontinued slide-phone model that was produced with red-white and blue-white two-tone exteriors. The phone's shell was constructed entirely of plastic, making it susceptible to cracking or breaking. One of the phone's best features was its price, ideal for those on a tight budget. Compared with other phones on the market at the time, the 5200 offered about the same features as other inexpensive 2G cell phone models.

Dimensions, Display and Power

Nokia's 5200 cell phone measures 3.6 inches tall, 1.9 inches wide and 0.8 inches thick and weighs 3.7 oz. Its two-inch color super twisted nematic (CSTN) LCD screen displays 256,000 colors at 128 by 160 pixels of resolution and is illuminated by a white backlight. CSTN is a type of passive matrix display technology used on early color-displaying mobile phones. When fully charged, the phone's standard lithium-ion battery provides up to 263 hours of standby and three hours and 10 minutes of talk time.

Connectivity and Internal Components

The Nokia 5200 connects to the 2G network using the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) 900, 1800 and 1900 frequency bands. The 2G network was designed for slow data transmission, mainly voice, and is not used by the devices manufactured in 2011. The Nokia 5200 transfers and receives data through a USB slot and a built-in infrared port. With five megabytes of internal memory, the Nokia 5200 is equipped with a micro Secure Digital slot for up to 2GB of expanded memory. The Nokia 5200 uses a Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) 2.0/xHTML browser to facilitate Internet connectivity. A built-in music player, FM radio, and digital camera are among the phone's multimedia features.

Camera, Music and Messaging

The Nokia 5200's digital camera uses Video Graphics Array technology, captures images at 640 by 480 pixels of resolution, and is capable of video recording. Short Message Service and Multimedia Messaging Service are supported by the 5200. SMS messages are text only, while MMS messages support pictures and voice. Audio files supported by the phone's music player include MP3 and Advanced Audio Coding (AAC). You can listen to music on the phone through the phone's built-in headphone jack.

Miscellaneous

The Nokia 5200's alert modes include a vibrating alert and polyphonic and MP3 ring tones. Several Java-based applications come with the phone, such as a stopwatch and predictive text input. The phone's organizational applications include a basic calculator, a calendar, an alarm clock and a countdown timer. The nearly identical Nokia 5300, which was released at the same time, offers a slightly larger 2.1-inch screen and a higher-quality 1.3-megapixel digital camera that captures images at 1,280 by 1,024 pixels of resolution.
