Set Up A Personal Gmail Account

Gmail is Google's free email program. With an online personal email address you can retain the same email address even if you change Internet service providers. Gmail is one of the few online email programs that allows you to send and receive email from a desktop client as well as from the Web-based interface for free. The setup for a personal account requires you to verify your account before use. This keeps automated programs (bots) from creating and using the Gmail service.

Instructions

1. Navigate to the Gmail website at Mail.google.com in any Web browser.

2. Click on the "Create an account" button on the right side of the screen.

3. Type the appropriate information in text boxes on the "Getting started with Gmail" page.

4. Click on the "I agree. Create my account." button.

5. Click on one of the verification options to verify that you are a real person. You can have an email sent to the alternate email address you provided on the "Getting started with Gmail" page, have a text message sent to your mobile phone or receive a voice phone call.

6. Click on the link in the email that was sent to you if you chose the email option. Type the verification code in the "Enter your code" text box if you chose the text message or voice mail verification options.

7. Click the "Show me my account" button to be taken to your Gmail inbox.

8. Email friends and family by clicking the "Compose mail" button on the left side of the screen.
