You can use Windows tools to set up an ad hoc network to share an internet connection.
The Microsoft Windows operating system comes equipped with all of the tools you need to share an Internet connection with a USB modem: Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) and built-in ad hoc networking capabilities. Set one computer as a host with the USB modem, with an active connection, and allow other users to connect to the new network through their computer's wireless cards or adapters.
Instructions
1. Enable Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). Click on the "Start" button and select "Control Panel." Click on the "Network and Internet" option and choose "Network and Sharing Center."
2. Click on "Manage network connections." Right-click on the name of your USB modem and choose "Properties."
3. Select the "Sharing" tab and select the check box next to the "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection" option. Click "OK" to exit.
4. Start an ad hoc network. Click "Start" button and select "Control Panel." Select the "Network Setup Wizard" icon. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up the network. You will be given options -- such as security keys and passwords. When you are finished, select "Save this network", and click "Next." The computer will verify that the settings have been saved. Click "Close." Other computers with wireless capabilities can now connect to the network and share the host's Internet connection.
