Unlock A Motorola V260

The Motorola V260 cell phone often comes locked when you purchase it from a cell phone service provider. In order to get the phone working with other networks as well, you must unlock it using a code generated specifically for your handset. A number of websites provide unlock codes for Motorola cell phones. However, you will not be able to get this code for free, so be prepared to pay a small fee.

Instructions

1. Locate the IMEI sticker on your Motorola V260. The sticker is found underneath the battery--take the battery out to see it. The IMEI sticker contains a 15-digit serial number, which is your cell phone's unique identity number. When you find the number, note it on a piece of paper.

2. Go to a website that generates unlock codes for Motorola handsets. Some of these websites include Unlock-Motorola, Unlock Expert and Motorola Mobile Unlocking.

3. Provide your name, email address and IMEI number. On some websites, you will have to select "V260" from the list of available handsets.

4. Provide your credit card details to purchase the code. You will have to specify the carrier the phone is locked to. Depending on the carrier, you will be informed about the fee for the code. The code for Motorola V260 will cost you between $12.99 and $25, as of August 2010.

5. Confirm that you want to purchase the code. You will have to provide the email address you want the code sent to. The code will arrive within 24 to 48 hours through email.

6. Power off your phone and take the battery out by removing the back cover of the phone. Now take out the existing SIM card.

7. Insert a SIM card from any GSM network carrier other than the one your phone is locked to. Now put the battery back into place and power on the phone again.

8. Type in the code obtained from the website, when the phone asks for a "Password."
