Belkin Router Installation

Get linked up now to the information superhighway, Belkin style.

The Internet has become a staple in most households. People have started using the Net so much that it's almost a necessity. For households with many individuals, it can be tough to share what is usually a single Internet connection. The solution fortunately, is relatively simple -- install a router. Internet routers, like those made by Belkin, make it easier for people to share Web access. Here's install a basic Belkin G Wireless Router, which should be the same for other models as well.

Instructions

1. Unplug your modem from its computer socket. Locate the cable connecting the computer to the modem. Disconnect this wire from the modem and connect it to the gray port at the back of the Belkin router.

2. Take the new cable from the box of the Belkin router. Connect it to the yellow port on the router. Connect the other end into the port of the modem where it was formerly connected to the computer. If the modem port is labeled it should say LAN.

3. Plug the modem's power supply and wait a minute for it to start up; do the same with the router. After about 20 seconds, the corresponding lights to all the connections should turn green; if not, recheck the cable connections.

4. Insert the CD that came with the router box. The setup assistant will pop-up after a few seconds to help with finalizing installation. If the setup assistant doesn't pop-up, open the CD in My Computer for Windows, and the Finder for Mac. Once opened, double-click "Setup Assistant."
