Drapes can vary from thin and sheer to dark and thick.
Drapes are a way to add a touch of style and personality to your room, and infuse color into an otherwise drab area. Drapes are also a way to hide from the world. Pull them tight and keep the outside out, or open them wide and let in the sunshine. There are several ways to display your drapes, but they way you hang them is standard. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Iron your curtains and lay them flat or hang them until you are ready to hang them on your curtain rod.
2. Choose the height. Your curtain rod can hang as close to the window or ceiling as you like. Standard height for a curtain rod is halfway between the window frame and the ceiling, according to House and Home. Your curtains should just touch the floor, although you may prefer them to be shorter or longer.
3. Mark the spots where you will attach your brackets to the wall with a pencil. Allow at least 3 or 4 inches on each side of the window so you can open your drapes without obstructing the window. Stand on a stepladder if the window is high.
4. Attach the brackets to the wall. Follow the manufacturer's instructions, as they vary by brand and style. An extra-wide window may require a middle bracket to keep the curtain rod from sagging.
5. Pull the curtain rod apart. It should separate in the middle, with one piece being slightly thicker than the other.
6. Put the drapes onto the rod. Slide the drapes onto the thicker rod, bunching them up so you can fit all of your panels onto the rod. Make sure the panels are all facing the same direction.
7. Reattach the ends of the rod and hang the rod on the brackets. Adjust the length of the rod so that it fits the brackets and sticks out evenly from both sides.
8. Spread out the drapes so they are evenly bunched across the rod. Make sure the center of your curtain or edges of two panels meet in the middle of the window.
