SIM cards are placed in every cell phone in order for the various carriers to keep track of subscription data. This SIM card is also used to lock your cell phone if you decide that you want to switch carriers. This means that you have to purchase a new cell phone every time you switch carriers--unless you find a way to unlock your Motorola i670. Fortunately, with an unlock code and a new SIM card, this process is simple.
Instructions
1. Contact Motorola and ask for an unlock code. If you provide sufficient reason for requiring your phone to be unlocked and your account is in good standing, you will be provided with an unlock code, in which case you may proceed to step 6.
2. Start an account with a new cell phone carrier. When they attempt to sell you a new phone, get them to give you a SIM card instead.
3. Open the back of your Motorola i670 and copy down the IMEI number. Alternatively, type in *# 0 6 #. When you press the last #, your IMEI number will appear.
4. Buy an unlock code from an unlocking website. They'll need to know the type of phone you have (Motorola i670) as well as your IMEI number. Once the transaction is complete, they'll email you a special unlock code.
5. Switch out your old Motorola SIM card for the new SIM card you received from your carrier.
6. Start your Motorola i670 by holding down the power button. The screen will say "Enter Special Code."
7. Type the unlock code into your i670. All of the cell's features will be unlocked.
