Use A Laptop Computer With Magellen Gps

Connect your Magellan GPS to your laptop computer to update software.

The Magellan Global Positioning System (GPS) is a navigation system that uses satellite technology to provide a virtual road atlas, complete with directions and other features. The Magellan GPS comes in three product lines: the Roadmate, the Maestro and the Triton. The GPS may be connected to a laptop or desktop computer with a universal serial bus (USB) cable for interaction. Only Windows XP, Vista and 2000 are compatible with a Magellan. Magellan is not compatible with Macintosh.

Instructions

1. Turn on your laptop computer, but do not open any programs. Turn on your Magellan device. Wait for it to completely power up. When it comes on, the main menu displays.

2. Connect the Magellan to your laptop computer using the USB cable. A "USB connected" message will appear on your Magellan. On your laptop computer, the Microsoft "New Hardware Wizard" dialog box also appears.

3. In the dialog box, select "No, not this time" and click "Next." Select the "Recommended" installation and click "Next." When the "Windows Signature" window appears, click "Continue." When the wizard has completed, click "Finish." Wait several minutes.

4. Right click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop and select "Explore" to open Windows File Explorer. You will see the "Magellan or TFAT" drive. Your Magellan is now connected to your computer.

5. Update your Magellan by inserting the Magellan Update CD software. Now that your Magellan is connected, you can follow the instructions to update the GPS system.

6. When updates are complete, close the program. Right-click on the Magellan icon on the desktop system tray and select "stop hardware." Follow the instructions to stop the Magellan hardware and click "OK." The USB cable is now safe to remove from the laptop computer.
