Activate a New iPhone With a Verizon Phone Number
Activation of a new Apple iPhone using an existing Verizon Wireless phone number requires the number be transferred from Verizon Wireless to AT&T. The process of transferring phone numbers between wireless carriers is called porting. Your wireless number must be eligible for local number portability in order to be transferred from Verizon Wireless to AT&T. According to the AT&T website, your wireless number will most likely be eligible for porting if AT&T service is available in your area.
Instructions
1. Check your Verizon number for eligibility to be transferred to AT&T. Visit the AT&T Number Eligibility Check website. Enter the Verizon phone number and billing zip code and click "Submit." If your number is eligible, proceed to the next step. If your number is not eligible, contact AT&T Wireless at (888) 333-6651 or visit an AT&T Wireless store for further assistance.
2. Choose an appropriate iPhone model and rate plan for your new account. Information about the iPhone and associated rate plans is available at the AT&T iPhone website. Activation and use of the iPhone requires subscribing to a monthly data plan in addition to the calling plan chosen.
3. Purchase the Apple iPhone from an Apple Retail store or AT&T Wireless store in your area. Apple Retail store locations can be found at apple.com/retail/ and AT&T Retail stores can be found at wireless.att.com/find-a-store/. Inform the sales associate that you wish to port your current Verizon Wireless number to AT&T for use with the iPhone. Provide the required information about your Verizon account and the sales associate will help you activate your new iPhone. The information required will include the Verizon Wireless account number, billing address and your Social Security number.
