Your cell phone address book doesn't have to disappear if something happens to your mobile device. Learning sync your cell phone address book contacts to an external device such a computer can protect your information and save time and energy.
Instructions
1. Identify output and input ports for all devices involved. Most computers feature USB ports, but cell phone inputs and outputs vary.
2. Find the appropriate connector for your phone. You will likely need a mini-USB to USB connector to transfer data from your phone to your computer.
3. Find sync software that best suits your needs and device specifications. If your mobile device did not come with a sync program, there are free sync applications such as ZYB and Google Mobile. If you are interested in more comprehensive sync applications with various degrees of service, try paid sync clients such as Plaxo.
4. Install the sync software. Before you are able to sync, you must either install your sync application from disc or download it from a provider website.
5. Launch your sync software. Unless instructed otherwise, run your desired sync program before connecting your cell phone or mobile device to the computer. This may not be necessary every time you sync, but it is usually best to allow your sync application to recognize the mobile device from a fresh connection.
6. Follow all device setup instructions. If applicable, you may need to register your device with the sync program. This is to avoid any confusion with multiple devices.
7. Connect your phone to your computer. Once the sync program is running, connect your mobile device to the computer through the appropriate port. If your sync application does not immediately recognize your device, check the menu bar for a device search option. Once the sync application recognizes your mobile device, the sync process should begin. If not, check the menu bar for a sync option.
