Upon purchasing your Nokia 5530 Xpress Music on a contract from a cellular network provider, such as T-Mobile or AT&T, you will find your cell phone locked for a particular duration -- usually one or two years. Throughout this duration, you are unable to get your phone to use a SIM card from a different network provider. However, if you absolutely have to get your phone on a different carrier's service, you can obtain an unlock code from a pay website. The fee for the code will depend on the carrier to which the phone is currently locked.
Instructions
1. Find out your phone's IMEI number by dialing "*#06#" on its keypad. Using this International Mobile Equipment Identity number, you can get your unique unlock code generated by a professional unlocking website.
2. Purchase an unlock code for your Nokia 5530 Xpress Music from a pay site, such as Super Unlock Codes, Unlock All Cellular or Unlock Phone Online (see Resources). On these websites, you have to make payment for the unlock code via a credit card. Specify the carrier the phone to which the phone is locked, and enter your phone's IMEI number. Within a few hours, the unlock code will be emailed to you.
3. Power on your cell phone without any SIM card in it.
4. Compose "#pw + code + 1#" where "code" is the unlocking code you purchased online.
5. Press "Send," and wait for the message "SIM Restriction Off" to be displayed. Once you see this message, you will be able to use a SIM card from any carrier in the world.
