Delete Text Messages From A Phone

Deleting text messages occasionally helps a wireless phone perform at its best.

Deleting text messages from a wireless phone can be done in several ways, such as deleting one text, a whole conversation or every message on the phone. The process to delete text messages has guidelines that pertain to most phone models. Deleting messages occasionally is a good maintenance task for any phone, as it frees up space for the phone to receive more texts or other data and often enables the phone to access data faster.

Instructions

Delete a Single Message

1. Click on the "Message" icon or the word "Message" or "Messaging" on the phone's home screen. If you don't see it, click "Menu" and then "Messaging."

2. Click the word "Inbox" or "Messages," if necessary, to see the list of all text messages. Scroll down to the message you want to delete and click "Options" or "Edit."

3. Select "Erase" or "Delete" and click it. Sometimes the phone will ask you to confirm ("Are you sure you want to delete this message?"). Select and click "Yes."

Delete All Messages

4. Open the messages screen, click "Options" and then "Manage Inbox" or "Manage Messages."

5. Click "Options" again and select "Mark All." This selection marks every text message in the phone. (This does not apply to all phones, as some do not allow you to delete multiple messages at one time.)

6. Click "Options" again, then select "Erase" or "Delete." Your phone may ask you to confirm the process: "Erase all messages?" Select and click "Yes."

Delete a Message from a Conversation

7. Delete one text message in a series by scrolling to that conversation and pressing the "OK" button on the phone's keypad. (This does not apply to all phones, as not all phones save text messages to and from the same set of people as a conversation, or allow you to delete one message from the conversation.)

8. Click "Options," then "Manage Messages."

9. Scroll to the text you want to delete and press the "OK" button. Click "Options," then "Erase."
