Install the Garmin on the E71
One handy feature of the Nokia E71 cell phone is the fact that you can install and use the Garmin Mobile XT GPS program on it. This enables you to cut the number of devices you take with you in half, as your GPS then will be built into your phone. Prior to installing the program on your phone, you must have the Garmin Mobile XT software and support installation files on your computer.
Instructions
1. Connect your Nokia E71 to your computer via the USB data cable and then turn on the "USB Data Transfer" connection mode when prompted on your phone's screen.
2. Double-click on your Garmin installation file, select your Nokia E71 as the installation destination and then select "Install" to begin the process. Once complete, do the same thing to install the Garmin GPS support installation file.
3. Install updated map files to your phone (optional--only if you have them) by copying the file(s) to the "Garmin" folder on your phone's memory card. You can access your memory card by going to "My Computer" and double-clicking on the "Nokia E71" drive.
4. Disconnect your phone from your computer and restart it. Once restarted, go to the "Applications" folder, select the "GMobileXT" app and follow the onscreen prompts to initialize the program. If you haven't already bought the software, you will now be prompted to purchase it and enter the provided activation key. To use the trial version instead of purchasing the full version, select "Evaluate the Trial Version."
