Change Carriers With The Samsung Omnia

Unlock your Samsung Omnia to use the phone on a different mobile carrier.

If you own the Samsung Omnia mobile phone, you may want to switch mobile carriers. Fortunately, you can do so by performing a SIM Unlock. Because the Samsung Omnia is locked to a single provider when you purchase the phone, the phone must be unlocked using an unlock code. Your unlock code is available from your current provider or an online unlock service. After the phone is unlocked, you can install a different provider's SIM card.

Instructions

Unlock Samsung Omnia

1. Remove the battery cover and battery from the back of your Samsung Omnia. Look at the compliance sticker and write down the numbers next to "IMEI." The IMEI is an identification code specific to each cell phone. It is required to obtain your phone's unlock code.

2. Dial "611" and press "Send" to reach your current provider's customer service line. Request your device's unlock code from the responding agent. Be prepared to give the agent the IMEI code that you wrote down. Write down the unlock code.

3. Purchase the Omnia's unlock code from an online provider, such as Unlock to Talk, GSM Liberty or Cellfservices.com. You will need the IMEI number along with an email address to receive the code. In addition, be prepared to enter a payment method, such a credit or debit card number.

Install Different Provider's SIM Card

4. Locate a local retail store for your new provider. For example, visit T-Mobile.com or VerizonWireless.com and select "Store Locator." Visit ATT.com and click "Find a Store." Enter your address to receive a list of retail locations in your area.

5. Visit the retail location during business hours with the unlocked Samsung Omnia phone. Tell the responding agent that you want you use the Omnia on itsnetwork and that you have already unlocked the phone. Be prepared to give the agent a form of payment, such as a credit or debit card, to pay for any service charges. For example, although you do not need to buy a handset, you need to pay to activate the line, among other initiation fees.

6. Insert the SIM card that the agent gives you into the phone. The SIM card slot is located behind the battery. The agent may choose to install the SIM herself. Make sure that the Omnia works on the new network by making a call while at the store. However, make this call later if the agent says that it will take time to activate your line.
