Set Up Location And Other Sensors In Windows 7

Track your location virtually anywhere with a GPS sensor on your laptop.


You can install a variety of sensors on your Windows 7 laptop that can allow your laptop to take on the role of a GPS, compass, accelerometer, motion detector, weather radar or a number of other things. You can use these sensors to collect and monitor data for research involved with a work or school project, or you can use the data collected by your sensor to research a subject for your own personal enjoyment.


Instructions


Enable a Sensor


1. Click the "Start" icon on your Windows 7 computer after you have purchased or downloaded a sensor for your computer and installed the software for the sensor.


2. Click "Control Panel."


3. Type "sensors" in the Search box in the upper right corner of your Windows 7 computer.


4. Click "Location and other sensors." The Location and Other Sensors window will appear on your screen.


5. Click the box next to the program that you want to enable for use with the Windows 7 Location and Other Sensors program from the list that is generated. Click "Apply" to enable the program. If you have a Windows 7 administrator password set up on your computer, enter it in the dialogue box that appears asking for your password and click "Enter." Your program is enabled.


Change Who Accesses Sensor Information


6. Click the "Start" icon in the lower left corner of your Windows 7 screen and then click "Control Panel."


7. Type "sensors" in the Search box in the upper right corner of your screen.


8. Click "Location and other sensors." The Location and Other Sensors window will appear on your screen.


9. Click "Change user settings" on the left side of the screen. A list of programs that are affiliated with a sensor will appear on your screen. Click the name of the program that you want to adjust the user settings for.


10. Click the box next to the name of each person who uses your Windows 7 computer to whom you want to grant access to the information collected by this sensor and click "OK." If you are prompted, enter your administrator password.


Uninstall a Sensor


11. Follow Steps 1 through 3 in Section 2. You will arrive at the Location and Other Sensors window.


12. Click the name of the sensor you want to uninstall from the list on the screen.


13. Click "Uninstall this sensor" beneath the "More options" section and click "OK." Enter your administrator password if you are prompted for it. Your sensor will be uninstalled.
