My Nokia 5610 Won'T Read The Memory Card

The Nokia 5610 MusicXpress is a cellphone that is also designed to play music and display photos loaded from your computer. These files are stored on the phone's memory card until they are accessed by the phone's applications. Online forum posts by Nokia 5610 users indicate that the phone sometimes has issues reading the memory card, even when it's not full.

Memory Card Corruption

The Nokia 5610 user guide reports that improper removal of the memory card from the Nokia cellphone can cause the memory card to become corrupted. The chances of the memory card becoming corrupted are greatest if the memory card is removed while the phone is using the memory card to access files. This includes any time your Nokia 5610 is playing music or displaying photos stored by the memory card.

Proper Removal

Turn off any Nokia 5610 application using files stored on the phone's memory card; the Nokia phone itself may stay on during removal of the memory card without risking corruption. Reveal the memory card panel on your Nokia 5610 by removing the battery cover. Swing open the memory card panel and pull out the memory card to remove. Replace the memory card by sliding it back into its slot in the panel, making sure the gold contact area is facing up. Move the panel back into place and replace the battery cover when finished.

Incompatible Memory Card

Replacing the Nokia 5610's memory card with an incompatible card can also result in the cellphone's inability to read the memory card. The Nokia 5610 cellphone uses a Nokia 2 gigabyte microSD MU-37 memory card. These memory cards are utilized for storing data, such as music, photos and software applications, onto your Nokia 5610 phone. As of November 2011, online prices for a replacement Nokia microSD MU-37 memory card range from about $5 to about $25.

Backup Memory Card

You can back up your Nokia 5610's memory card to your computer in the event that the memory card becomes corrupted and unusable. Connect your Nokia 5610 to your computer using the proper USB cable. From your Nokia 5610 phone, select "Menu," then "Settings" and then select the option for "Sync and backup." Select the option titled "Create backup" to back up the data stored on your memory card. If the card becomes corrupted and you want to use the backup, go back to the "Sync and backup" menu on your Nokia phone and select "Restore backup."
