Malware can cause your computer to freeze or crash.
Malware is a generic term used to describe programs designed to perform a malicious task on your computer. Viruses, Trojans, worms, key loggers, spyware and adware are all examples of malware. Several companies sell software designed to remove malware. The two leading companies are Symantec and McAfee. However, it is possible to remove malware from your computer without the additional expense by downloading a free antivirus program.
Instructions
Automatic Removal
1. Download a free antivirus program. Several free antivirus programs are available online, including Windows Defender, AVG and Bit Defender (see "Resources").
2. Run the antivirus program. Most antivirus programs give you the option of running a full scan or a quick scan. A full scan will scan your entire computer for malware. A quick scan will only scan the areas where malware is most commonly found.
3. Download and run a second antivirus program. Not all antivirus programs are created equal. Sometimes, a second antivirus program will detect and remove malware that the first antivirus program missed. Running two antivirus programs should remove all of the malware from your computer. If a piece of malware remains, continue to the next section.
Manual Removal
4. Backup your computer. Manually removing malware is a technical process that involves ending processes, deleting files and editing your registry. Backing up your computer ensures that any mistake you make can be fixed.
5. Type the name of the malware into the FasterPCCleanClean or Spyware Remove search box (see "Resources"). If you do not know the name of the malware, type the main symptom of the malware into the search box. For example, typing "casino popup" into the FasterPCCleanClean box will direct you to Xupiter, a piece of malware that floods your computer with casino advertisement popups.
6. Follow the steps described by FasterPCCleanClean or Spyware Remove in order to manually remove the malware.
