N95 Gps Tips

The N95's GPS tool can help you find your location anywhere in the world.

Nokia released the N95 as an all-in-one phone for the business and leisure customer. The phone has a built-in GPS chip that can help you quickly navigate unfamiliar roads and cities. Various tips and usage strategies can help you get the most out of your N95's GPS service.

Charge Your Battery

Running GPS on your N95 can quickly drain your phone's battery, according to Nokia. Fully charge the device before running its GPS tools. Alternatively, keep the N95 connected to its charging dock while you're using GPS to keep the battery from being depleted. Nokia offers various mobile charging cables, such as ones that connect to your car, that are ideal when using GPS on the road.

Increase Reception

The N95's GPS chip is built into the bottom of the device. Increase reception by sliding the N95 open so that its keypad is exposed. Hold the back of the top of the phone to prevent your hand from accidentally blocking the reception of GPS signals. Nokia recommends tilting the device at a 45-degree angle toward you with the N95's screen facing the sky.

Location

To establish the best initial signal with the GPS satellites, Nokia suggests that you take the N95 outdoors into a clear and open area. After establishing a signal, bring the device back indoors or into your car and use it as usual.

Change Your Map Views

Customize the way GPS maps are displayed on your N95 to best match your lifestyle and needs. Click "Options," press "Tools" and select "Settings." Click "Map" to view all of the GPS map settings that can be changed or customized. For example, press "System of Measurement" to toggle between imperial or metric measurements on the map display, or hit "Categories" to change what types of points of interest are displaying while browsing the map.

Update Your Software

Nokia regularly releases system updates to the N95's internal software, as well as updates to its GPS maps to show new roads or businesses. Download the Nokia update software and follow the on-screen prompts to download and install an update onto your phone. The update software will prompt you to connect your phone to your computer using the included Nokia USB sync cable.
