Make International Calls Using Sprint'S Phone Service

On the surface, you might say that all you need to do in order to place an international telephone call is dial the country code of the country you wish to call, along with the telephone number. With Sprint phone service, however, a few more details need to be added to the process. Following Sprint's established protocol can save you from having an enormous telephone bill.

Instructions

1. Ensure that you have "International Dialing Capability" added to your line. If your line is not enabled for international calling, contact Sprint and request this feature. There is no cost to request this calling capability. However, there are charges to make calls on the line.

2. Telephone Sprint and subscribe to an international calling plan if you make a lot of international calls. Sprint offers international calling plans for Mexico, as well as international calling plans that allow you to call anywhere in the world for a low monthly rate plus low per-minute rates.

3. Speak with a Sprint representative or visit the Sprint website to verify the per minute rates for calling the country of your choice. If you have not subscribed to an international calling plan, your per minute rate will be higher.

4. Dial the international access code followed by the country code and telephone number to place your call. The international access code to place a call from the United States is "011." International access codes will vary depending on the country you are placing the call from. For a list of international access codes and country codes, see "Resources" at the end of this article.

5. Purchase a Sprint International mobile phone if you want to use your cell phone to make international calls from countries other than the United States. Regular Sprint cell phones are CDMA phones that are not GSM enabled. A GSM-enabled mobile device is necessary to make international phone calls from countries such as those in Europe and other locations.
